Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What does ProHort Ltd specialise in?

ProHort Ltd provides professional consultancy in horticulture, ecology, and planning support. We specialise in ecological surveys, biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments, tree surveys, invasive weed management, and habitat management plans, helping developers, landowners, architects, and planners meet regulatory requirements while enhancing the natural environment.

2. Do you provide ecological surveys for planning applications?

Yes. We undertake a wide range of ecological and habitat surveys, including Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), and protected species surveys. Our reports are prepared to meet planning authority standards and can support applications at both local and national levels.

3. What is Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), and can you help achieve it?

BNG is a government requirement ensuring development leaves the natural environment in a measurably better state. ProHort Ltd provides BNG assessments, habitat mapping, and management plans to demonstrate compliance and deliver sustainable ecological improvements.

4. Do you carry out tree surveys?

Yes. We conduct BS5837 tree surveys to inform planning applications and development projects. We also provide tree condition reports and management recommendations to ensure both safety and compliance.

5. Do you provide bat surveys?

Yes. We carry out Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA) and Emergence/Re-entry Bat Surveys in accordance with best practice guidelines. These are often required as part of planning applications where buildings, trees, or habitats may support bats.

6. When is a bat survey required?

Local planning authorities will request a bat survey if there is a possibility that bats could be present in a structure (such as lofts, barns, bridges) or in mature trees. Development cannot proceed without demonstrating that the legal protections for bats and their roosts have been considered.

7. How much does a bat survey cost?

Costs vary depending on the type and scale of survey required:

  • Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA): from £499.67 + VAT
  • Emergence/Re-entry Surveys (usually 2–3 visits): from £1,235.93 + VAT

We provide a clear quotation upfront after discussing your project, so you know exactly what to expect.
