Even if a tree has a Tree Preservation Order applied to it and is being retained on the site, there are still other things to consider.
Tree’s roots have a high probability of causing damage to neighbouring properties. They can commonly cause subsidence damage and other issues. It is at this stage that a Root Barrier design would be required.
A Root Barrier is a specialised membrane that can inhibit the root progression near sensitive landmark areas. These include boundary lines and foundations. With careful design and insertion, a Root Barrier can ensure that the property is protected whilst the tree thrives.
In order to ensure that the Root Barrier is installed effectively, a Root Barrier design is put in to place. This identifies where the membrane would be laid and at what depth. This would take in to consideration the spread of the trees roots. It would also consider the health of the tree and any landscape features.
Due to the nature of these projects, every Root Barrier design we put together is a bespoke solution.
Upon your enquiry, we will offer you any advice you need regarding the installation of a membrane. We will also advise regarding any other aspects that should be considered alongside this. One of our consultants would then be booked to meet you on site. This will allow them to obtain all of the details relating to the project, including measurements and images of the site. By obtaining these details they will be able to ascertain the required depth and length of the membrane.
The consultant would then oversee the entire project. This would include putting together the design of the barrier. We could also oversee the final installation of the barrier, if required. The design would be tailored to ensure a minimal impact on the client. We would ensure that the barrier is not visible upon completion of the works.
Upon completion of the design, you will be provided with a digital copy in the form of a PDF. This can be branded under ProHort or provided as a white label document for incorporation into your own documentation.
In addition to the design of Root Barriers, we also carry out BS5837:2012 Tree Surveys and Tree Preservation Order applications, searches and appeals. We often find that these services overlap.
