A Bat Emergence Survey (also called a dusk/dawn activity survey) is a detailed assessment to detect bats emerging from or returning to potential roosts. It’s usually required after a Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA) identifies moderate or high bat roost potential in a structure or tree.
You may need a bat emergence survey if:
Your PRA recommended further survey work
You’re working on barns, lofts, bridges, or older buildings
There are bats or bat droppings on site
You’re removing trees or features near potential bat habitats
Emergence surveys are seasonal: Please note these surveys must be conducted between May and September, when bats are active.
