Badger Surveys
At ProHort Ltd., we provide comprehensive badger surveys to support planning applications, construction projects, and land management activities. Our qualified ecologists ensure your project complies fully with UK wildlife legislation, helping you proceed responsibly and legally.
Why Are Badger Surveys Important?
Badgers (Meles meles) and their setts are protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992. It is illegal to:
Damage, destroy, or obstruct access to a badger sett
Disturb badgers while they are occupying a sett
If you’re planning development work within 30 meters of a badger sett, a licensed survey is often a legal requirement. Failure to comply can result in fines, delays, or legal action.
When is a Badger Survey Needed?
You may need a badger survey if your project involves:
Residential or commercial development
Road construction or infrastructure upgrades
Tree felling, excavation, or groundworks
Agricultural or landscaping changes
Surveys are often requested as part of the planning process, especially if the site is within known badger territory or if early ecological assessments indicate possible activity.
